During the ongoing COVID pandemic, the Department of Immunology became a center for collecting clinical and research data of patients hospitalized at the University Hospital Motol.
These prospective studies resulted in a publication summarizing the characteristics of patient cohorts by disease severity and prognosis. Researchers at the Institute of Immunology also followed up by studying the immune mechanisms accompanying the disease, with special emphasis on the role of innate immunity, especially neutrophils.
The activity is reflected in publications on the topic, which contribute to the worldwide rise of scientific activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
